Day-1:  8:30 AM – 4: PM – Didactic session

  • Difference between peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and Midline Catheter
  • Legal implications and insertion qualification criteria
  • Patient selection criteria for PICC and Midline
  • Venous anatomy and insertion site selection
  • Review of maximal sterile barrier prevention and CLABSI prevention guidelines
  • Equipment selection
  • Routine care and maintenance of PICC and Midline
  • Prevention and management of common complications

Day-2 – 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM  – Ultrasound Insertion Technique

  • Fundamentals of sonography
  • Identify blood vessels and insertion site with an ultrasound
  • Illustration of MST technique for PICC & midline insertion 
  • Methods to verify catheter tip
  • PICC and midline catheter removal
  • Documentation guidelines
  • Demonstration and Practice: Following the demonstration by the instructors, attendees use an ultrasound to scan and locate veins each other, and then practice insertion technique on a Blue Phantom vein and Peter PICC mannequin. One-on-one supervision is provided
