Day 2

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Management of CVADs at home

  • Vascular Access devices (VAD) and selection criteria
  • VAD Flushing and locking protocols
  • CVAD site assessment and dressing change
  • PICC and midline associated DVT assessment
  • Blood specimen collection through CVADs
  • Accessing and de-accessing Ports
  • De-clotting CVADs with cathflo Alteplase
  • Removing PICC and non-tunneled CVADs

 

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – IV Skill Enhancement Workshop

  • Venous anatomy and peripheral catheter insertion site selection
  • Methods to palpate and locate veins
  • IV catheter insertion and troubleshooting technique
  • Peripheral IV related common complications
  • Documentation guidelines

Practice session: Attendees practice to palpate and identify veins on each other and then insert IV catheter on an advanced venipuncture aid.
