Program outline


 Day  1: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM


Upon completion, attendees will

Understand legal implications of infusion therapy at home

Coordinate home infusion therapy with providers and the care team

Initiate infusion therapies at home

Teach patient or caregiver to safely use equipment and manage infusion therapies at home

Explain fundamentals of ambulatory infusion pumps

Relate different types of IV solutions, irritant and vesicant medications

Select vascular access devices according to the type and duration of the treatment

Administer first dose of IV Medications at home

Manage patients receiving following infusion therapies at home:

  • Anti-infective Therapies
  • Parenteral hydration
  • Pain management
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
  • Biotherapies and Immunoglobulins: IV Ig & SC Ig
  • Inotropic medications 


Day  2 :  8:30 AM – 12:Noon  Central Vascular Catheters


Up on completion of this session, attendees will be able to

Differentiate midline, PICC, non-tunneled, tunneled, and implanted CVADs

Maintain patency of CVADs (Flushing and locking protocols)

Perform dressing change and site care

Identify PICC & midline related DVT

Access and de-access implanted venous access port (Port-a-cath)

Collect blood specimen through CVADs

De-clot thrombotic occlusions with Alteplase

Remove PICC and non-tunneled CVCs

1:00 PM – 4:30 PM  Peripheral IV Ttherapy


Up on completion of this session, attendees will be able to

Select peripheral catheter insertion site

Insert and maintain peripheral catheters

Manage insertion and device related complications

Understand PIV catheter removal guidelines
