Midline is a vascular access device measring 3 - 8 inches long with distal tip at or below the axilla and distal to the shoulder. Midline catheters are indicated IV hydration, pain management and certain antibiotics for a duration up to 4 weeks. Midlines be used immediatly after insertion. No chest X-ray verification required.

Target Audience: Clinicians with good IV skills may insert midlines in any settings without an ultrasound.  Participants gain in-depth knowledge of excalibur and MST PICC insertion techniques, routine care, prevention and management of complications.

Objectives: Diffenctiate midline from PICC and CVADs, legal considerations, indications and contraindications, venous anatomy, vein and insertion site selection, equipment and product selection, infection control, illustration and demonstration of Excalibur and MST insertion techniques, routine care and maintenance, prevention and management of complications, troubleshooting insertion related complications, catheter removal procedure, documentation guidelines, development of an outcome monitoring program.
Following didactic, participants get an opportunity to practice basic Excalibur and MST techniques.
